My large lidded jar and my teapot are the two pieces that show my growth the most. At the beginning of the semester i wasn't able to bring up my cup above 4 inches, and now i can get it up to about 8-9 inches. Also I had no clue on how to create a lid, but now i can do it successfully. The jar was also my favorite project to do because i love bringing things up and smoothing them out. My teapot final also shows my growth because before i never used to add anything to any of my projects and with this I added a large tree. Also it taught me how to make a different type of lid. When i glazed it I had to get in all the tiny places which also helped me get better. The teapot made me struggle a little bit too because i had to figure out how to do a spout. Overall my teapot and jars showed my growth the most.- Avery

Most successful projects
My project that I believe was most successful is my non-traditional portrait of Chris Evans. The theme of the portrait and topic centered around the idea of a non-traditional medium idea where we are required to use an untypical medium. To obtain the non-traditional status, I chose to use makeup as the medium. To start the project though, I used pencil to outline his major features and then went over it in varying shades and styles of makeup including eye shadow, bronzer, blush, and eyeliner. The first thing that I colored was his hair/beard/eyebrows using a little of the eye shadow/bronzer to fill in the spaces. After completing the eyes using more eyeliner and eye shadow, I wen to on creating the definition of his face using bronzer and eye shadow. Lastly, I created the jacket/shirt by using wet eye shadow and eyeliner to create the lowlights and highlights. I believe using this size paper and medium added to enhancing the project because of the similarities between makeup and actual skin tones. The makeup also made it very easy to add definition and realistic aspects to the portrait that greatly enhanced the project. -jackie
The Up Close and Personal project is my most successful piece. It is of the Statue of Liberty's Torch with the moon behind. The theme of this project was Up Close and Personal, for this I was allowed to use oil pastels, which is my medium. The process I went through to finish this was first I had to come up with an idea, I had many different ideas such as a China Plate, an eye, or a flower, I chose the torch. The second step was getting the sketch then drawing the sketch on my final piece of paper. I then colored with oil pastels, I used many different techniques one being shading. I finished it off by adding more detail to the flame and adding the shadow using shading by the hand. I chose to draw the picture portrait style since it was a tall object that I needed to draw, I didn't need to shrink or smash the torch. I thought after the torch was finished that the oil pastels really made all the objects pop out/stick out from the paper. The shading also helped me distinguish between the hand and the torch. If I could not tell that there was a difference between the hand and the torch then everything would blend together and no one could tell the difference, maybe even what the artwork was of. - allyson
